Based on the evocative and haunting book The Island by Armin Greder, this hybrid performance fuses together live physical performance, literature, digital art, sculpture and fashion to tell a poignant story of a community damaged by fear. Steam Island delves into the psyche of the group dynamic exploring issues associated with multiculturalism and social inclusion; the project asks audiences to reflect on decisions relating to others’ sense of belonging. Steam Island is a Steam Punk fantasy devised and depicted by 8 young physical performers (aged 11-20yrs) and digital/visual creation by LuKu and Nickas, set to a lyrically enchanting musical score including cello, piano accordian and other mystical sounds, performed live by Allye Sinclair. Devised in collaboration based on The Island by Armin Greder. This production will be accompanied by a Teachers Classroom Pack that will include pre and post show activities and discussions around the performance, the art work and the literature.
